History of Toledo
Toledo, Washington was incorporated in 1892 and traces its roots to the early river landings on the Cowlitz River. The town’s name was inspired by the sternwheeler Toledo that served as a vital connection for settlers and trade in the late 1800s. Originally known as Cowlitz Landing, the settlement became a hub for commerce, logging, and agriculture in Lewis County.
Future updates will include more detailed local timelines, biographies of early families, and maps showing how Toledo developed from river port to modern community.
